Ideal lifestyle in Taiwan

Ideal lifestyle in Taiwan

Being born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan, we do things differently from the Western culture. One of the things we do differently is the way we eat. Since I was little, I was taught and told to eat with chopsticks as my primary utensil. I have been so used to eating with chopsticks that it has become my third hand, and to the point where I would sometimes have difficulties eating without them.

Taiwan Culture

Another culture that shaped my personal identity is the way I live. Back in Taiwan, most stores are open 24/7, and malls close around 11 pm. That means that the nightlife was very much alive compared to Victoria. I am always surprised by how early my friends in Victoria go to bed, as in Taiwan, midnight is always the most exciting time of the day. In high school, school usually starts around 6:30, and it often ends around 9:00 pm, depending on the school you attend. Since school takes up the majority of the day, the only time you get to relax and have fun is during nighttime.

Taiwan Eating

Our family tradition is that we would go out cruising on the mountain roads or explore the night market at midnight. My lifestyle and personal identity may be distinct from the ordinary teenager living in Canada, mainly due to my family traditions and cultural background.
